Years ago, I knew of
a woman who loved life and loved others.
She taught children in Sunday school at her church, and she
encouraged adults everywhere.
She wrote a book of poems that expressed her love for her family
and for her God.
She was also very
creative. She made crafts
all the time. It was a
favorite past-time of hers, and she would give her crafts to others as
gifts, or just to make someone’s day special.
What you don’t know
about this woman is that she was also very sick.
She was sick with diabetes and daily had to give herself insulin
shots. She was losing her sight, her hair, and the feeling in her hands
and feet.
The struggles that
she incurred as a result of her diabetes didn’t stop her from giving to
others however. I remember
one winter she took hundreds of medicine cups from the hospital and with
some glitter, glue, stick pins, ribbon and Styrofoam balls she made the
most beautiful ornaments.
She called them
“Christmas Balls.”
I still remember the one she made for our home.
It had a beautiful red ribbon, and it hung in the archway of our
dining room.

In those
days the medical field didn’t know all that they know now about
diabetes. I don’t even think
the non-profit organizations were as well known at that time either, at
least I don’t ever remember hearing about the American Diabetes
Association then.
In her mid 30’s the hospital became her second home. The doctor claimed then that she had a body of an elderly woman, and at the age of 36 she passed away. I was only 14 years of age, and that woman was my mother and this story represents why I do what I do.
The
inspiration continues on
Hi, I’m Shari Braun,
and this story of my mother has become the inspiration for the services
provided through ACO Events, a
division of ACO Virtual Services.
My desire has been for others to be encouraged, inspired, and
educated on those things in life that will matter most to them!
With a Bachelor of Science Degree I have
trained others as a teacher, an administrator, and as a consultant.
From my 29 years of experience of training, program development,
creativity and organization, I now set up events for those who wish to
speak and train in order to benefit others towards greater education and
personal improvement.
